We are a military family who, by 1995, had outgrown our home in Tinley Park and bought a newly constructed Brook Hills home (a PUD) in the village of Orland Park, that we continue to love!
Our four daughters attended Carl Sandburg High School that is part of the multi-campus district 230 system covering Palos areas, Tinley Park, Orland Park, Orland Hills, and sections of Oak Forest. The Orland CSHS campus has a strong department of music and is one of the few Chicago schools to have a marching band in addition to an orchestra! With my own interest and background in music, Brook Hills continues to be one of my favorite communities.
Bordering communities are Homer Glen to the west and Orland Hills and Mokena to the south (all are in Will County). Tinley Park is to the southeast, Oak Forest to the east, and Palos Park and Palos Heights to the north.
The Orland Park population is 60,000 and growing. The Recreation and Parks department consistently provided premier recreation and leisure locations that include: rock climbing, dog parks, bike paths, nature center, an ice skating rink, skate board emporium, health and fitness centers, and the fabulous facilities at Centennial Park Aquatic Center. Throughout the years, my family has taken full advantage of these amenities and the well-rounded list of activities, camps, and classes (including music) offered.
Orland Park’s Senior Township Office hosts a myriad of events for Senior community members, including the Senior American Idol Annual Competition and Dancing with the Stars. Both FUN-raising events support resources for Seniors and scholarships for high school seniors who fulfill volunteer opportunities at the Senior Township Office throughout the year. I have enjoyed participating in these events, initially as a performer for several years, and now as a judge.
The village of Orland Park maintains15,000+ acres of forest preserve and 150 miles of walking and bike trails walking and bike trails, as well as golf courses, the most popular being at Silver Lake and Crystal Tree.
Orland Park's Veterans Memorial is meaningful, stunning and named "Place of Peace."
A full menu of DMV services are provided at a Secretary of State Facility, conveniently located on Ravinia Drive. (Now it would be perfect if could get an Orland Park Traffic Court!)
Ready for lunch or need some fresh roasted coffee beans? There are wonderful restaurants, cafes and coffee spots throughout Orland Park. A favorite of mine is Mariano's, a great place to grocery shop and enjoy their eatery or have a drink at their fancy wine bar!
Maybe you, too, will love Brook Hills and the Orland Park community!
